Jagex’s classic MMORPG built on the 2007 version of RuneScape. Permanent Hardcore Worlds open on November 4, 2026: everyone starts from scratch, and death wipes your character.
About Old School RuneScape
Old School RuneScape (OSRS) is an MMORPG from the British studio Jagex, live since 2013. It grew out of an archived 2007 build of RuneScape. Updates only ship after player polls, which keeps its pace, progression and economy firmly old-school. It runs on PC, iOS and Android, with a free tier and a paid membership. **Hardcore Worlds — November 4, 2026.** Jagex is opening permanent Hardcore Worlds. Everyone begins with a fresh character on Tutorial Island, so all players start on equal terms. The pace matches the main game: no XP or drop-rate multipliers. Trading and the market are enabled, so the economy is built from scratch. The death rule is strict, following the Hardcore Group Ironman ruleset: almost any death sends you to Death’s Office. There you choose: - **Reset** — start over on the same character; - **Transfer** — move the character to the main game for good. Anything that would go to your gravestone is lost forever. Every player starts with an Escape Crystal. World firsts and major deaths will be broadcast across Hardcore Worlds. Jagex has not announced the opening time yet, so DAYSTART shows the date only and will add the time once it is announced. Bounty Hunter and Last Man Standing are disabled at launch.
